CALHOUN POWER SCHOLARSHIP
Calhoun Power Company, LLC, located in Eastaboga, produces 688 Megawatts (MW) of energy using primarily natural gas, with diesel fuel as an alternate fuel source.  It has four GE 7FA gas turbine engines.  Electricity generated at the power plant has the capacity to power over 500,000 homes in the region.  Beginning in 2017, Calhoun Power will offer three scholarships to graduating seniors planning to focus in electrical/electronic/engineering majors.  These scholarships will be non-renewable awards of $2000, divided across fall and spring semester.

Criteria and Eligibility 
  1. Applicant be a graduating senior living in Calhoun County.
  2. Applicant must be planning to focus in electrical/electronic/engineering related fields.
  3. Applicant must have at least a 2.0 grade point average (or a “C” average).
  4. Seniors must have either consistently strong academics or be able to demonstrate improvement over their time in high school, as well as a desire to attend college.
  5. Applicant must demonstrate community involvement: seniors must be able to show at least 20 hours of community service over their time in high school, while returning applicants must have 40 hours over the previous year.
  6. Applicants may not be related to any ACEF staff or member of the Board of Directors as this presents a conflict of interest.
  7. Applicants must be willing to attend a scholarship orientation with the Anniston Community Education Foundation (at least two spring/summer sessions will be scheduled
